National Hadrontherapy Center
The project concerns the expansion and reorganization of the building complex home to the National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy (hereinafter CNAO), located in Pavia, the only center in Italy for the treatment of inoperable radio-resistant tumors, through the use of carbon ions and protons. The intervention involves: the functional reorganization of some areas of the existing building with healthcare functions; the structural adaptation of the south-west building currently used as a technological center, the expansion of the existing building complex through the construction of a new building, serving proton therapy and boron therapy and all the healthcare and technical rooms necessary for operation; the creation of a room for magnetic measurements serving the centre. The choice of materials is based on the study of the current state and the urban context in which the intervention area is inserted, but also derives from the analysis of the technical needs that characterize the building in the project intended for high technology (accelerators , treatment rooms, technological plants).
