Fréjus Motorway Tunnel

The new Safety Tunnel of the Fréjus Motorway Tunnel connects the Italian region of Piedmont with the French region of Savoy, in particular it connects Bardonecchia (Piedmont) with Modane (Savoy), and represents an important road connection element between Italy and France, along the Turin - Lyon axis. The main elements of the work are: Adaptation of the diameter of the safety tunnel from 5.50 to 8.00 m; Adaptation of the ventilation system; Construction of 5 by-passes for the passage of emergency vehicles from the safety tunnel to the tunnel. The peculiarity of the project is the fact that a work will be built alongside an existing installation in operation and the new work will be integrated into the existing one as the work continues. All this therefore required a particular degree of attention both at the level of detailed planning of the interventions and of implementation deadlines and management of the integration phases.
